In the spring of 1970, Raymond F. Elliott Sr. started R-E working out of the basement of the family home in Brighton, NY selling Teledyne Rotolite Diazo Blueprint equipment to architectural and engineering firms in Western NY. Six months later, the business moved from the family home to a small space in Pittsford at The Forman Pickle Factory on Grove Street.
In the fall of 1976 following the marriage of Raymond F. Elliott Jr (Rick) to Sheila Butler Elliott, Rick joined his Dad in business and the two expanded the business to include the sales of diazo media products including blue and black line diazo paper, linen, sepia, mylar and vellum. It wasn’t long after that Ray and Rick ventured into the technology of diazo printing services and took over more space in the Pickle Factory to provide these services to local architects, engineers and the like.
As time went along and technology advanced Rotolite – Elliott moved into wide format digital printing and phased out the diazo equipment used at One Grove Street. In 1983, Sheila joined the business part time working in the office answering phones processing orders and invoices and doing general office work while learning the business and products Rotolite carried.
In January of 1994 Raymond F. Elliott Sr. passed away at the age of 70 following a three year battle with cancer. Rick and Sheila bought the business in the spring of 1994.
The company has always had a strong belief in keeping as much business local as possible and worked with Xerox Corp for many years utilizing their wide format technology and equipment, even being one of the Beta Test sites for the Xerox 8850.
